Computer Insights’ Control
Overview
Computer Insights' Control is a general purpose application database. Some standard applications are provided for use as is, to be customized, as templates or as examples. Control can be used to create complete custom applications. Data entry programs are provided for set-up, production and administrative functions. Each program works in the same or similar manner. A control program is provided for browsing/selecting/searching/ displaying data in various sequences. Supporting functions such as security are also provided. Documentation is provided so that the detailed instructions are displayed on the screen next to the data entry fields. Tutorials are provided.
A unique design is implemented so you, the user, can "do it your way" within a focused, organized structure employing a combination of standard/proven and innovative techniques. Each file can have multiple records which facilitates the co-existence and maintenance of diverse data. The user assigns records to files and then assigns fields to the Record + File combination. All files are provided as well as some standard fields and records. Additional records and fields are provided by the user, as appropriate, for the custom application. The View, Journal and Transaction files have additional dimensions. For example, a view is a unique combination of a Name (e.g. person), Organization (e.g. company), Location (e.g. postal), etc. which allows multiple viewpoints such as bill-to, ship-to and home addresses. Personal, work and home business data can be maintained on the same system.
The user creates fields, as needed, with the desired properties. The data Type such as character, numeric (5 options) and date is selected. The applicable or preferred Control such as text box or edit box is then selected. The defaults associated with Type and Control are often sufficient. A robust set of properties are provided in categories of Type, Control, Functions, Special, Font, Text, Regional and Values. The Font and Text properties (e.g. Language) can be overridden when the Field is assigned to the Record + File. The user can Preview the field. There are classes (groupings) of fields for formulas, statistics, reports etc.
The Control dashbaord provides the main screen. Records and fields for all user files can be accessed via lookups. The data is displayed in 4 windows - Data (with filter), Transaction, View (2 different). All file relationships are reflected on the screen. For example, when a View changes, the associated Name, Organization and Location changes. Options exist for Clear (clearing the screen), Print (Screen, Printer, File), Import, and Export. Each user file maintenance program can be accessed without returning to the main menu.
